I was never a runner or had any interest it doing so until a few years ago. I did a half marathon in 2009 then lost interest until I got into the London marathon for 2011. It was then near the end of 2010 that I started to take things a bit more seriously. As the marathon approached I started to think about doing my first ultra. Running London didn’t deter me and I entered Round the Rock, a race around Jersey. I loved it. My new life began, leaving the binge drinking and smoking behind.
To date I’ve completed 5 half marathons, 4 marathons and 16 ultra marathons (including one stage race). Running has made me travel to places I thought I would never go and accomplish things I never thought possible. I’ve been fortunate to be able to have a sabbatical, travelling overseas in the glorious sunshine. Progression has been slow and steady but to date every race I’ve repeated I have managed to get faster with the exception being in Gran Canaria where the route was completely different in 2014. I hope to continue that trend though at some point it will come to an end. With hard work, self belief and motivation I wonder how long I can delay that?
